Goan Style Mackerel Curry

Mackerel is consumed worldwide. It contains vitamin D and is rich source of Omega 3 Fatty acid. 

Goan fish curry recipe is popular worldwide. Fish is an integral part of Goa's food diet. In Konkani Mackerel Curry is called as 'Bangdyachi Codi'.

Try out this simple recipe. 

Ingredients:

- 1 cup Grated coconut

- 5-6 Red Chili

- 1 Green Chili

- A piece of Ginger

- 1/2 tsp. Turmeric Powder

- 7-8 Sichuan Pepper (Tirphal)

- 2-3 Mackerels cut into 3-4 pieces

- 2 Dry Kokum petals (Amsol)

- Salt to taste

Instructions:

Firstly wash the Mackerels and cut them into small pieces. Marinate the mackerels with salt and keep it aside for half an hour.

To make the curry mixture, add grated coconut in the grinder (mixer) and 5-6 dry red chilies. Meanwhile, fry green chili on low gas flame. Add fried green chili, turmeric powder, some water in the mixer jar. Grind it and make thin paste. 
 
Now heat the kadai, add the gravy paste with some additional water. Add chopped ginger and marinated pieces of Mackerel. After the fish curry cooks a bit, add Sichuan Pepper (Tirphal). Add salt as per taste. Finally, add dry Kokum petals (Amsol). 

Lastly add 1 drop of coconut oil. 

Mackerel curry is ready. Serve it with hot rice and enjoy.
