Recipe of Cucumber Karam | Goan Cucumber Karam | Cucumber Salad

Cucumber belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family. It is very rich in nutrients. It has more water content which is very good to keep your body hydrated. It also helps in weight loss. It is very healthy and nutritious fruit. You can simply eat cucumber after your meal by cutting it into round pieces, applying salt and red chili powder.

Cucumber is called as "Thoushe" Konkani. Small cucumber is called as "Pipri" in Konkani. Cucumber Karam is a salad of cucumber. Its pieces are mixed with coconut chutney, which is called as "Thoushyachi Karam".

There are many other Goan dishes prepared using Cucumber. One of the famous dish is "Tavsali" (Cucumber Cake). Cucumber cake is prepared similarly like Jackfruit cake.

How to make Cucumber Karam


Ingredients required to make Cucumber Karam

- 2 cups grated Coconut

- 4 Votama Sola (Monkey Jackfruit)

- 2 medium size Cucumbers

- 2 Green chilies

- Salt as per taste

Instructions to make Cucumber Karam

Firstly wash the cucumber and make small pieces of it.

Heat the pan and dry roast mustard seeds and chilies. Make two pieces of chili. Keep it aside to cool.

Make coconut Chutney

Now to make coconut chutney, In a mixer grinder add grated coconut, votma sola,  roasted mustard seeds, roasted  green chilies and salt. Now add a little water and grind it. Do not add much water as cucumber is watery fruit.

Final step

Mix coconut chutney and pieces of cucumber. Combine all the ingredients nicely. Cucumber Karam is ready.
