Rasam Vada is a South Indian dish. It is a crispy vadas which is served with soup of Tomato and lentils. This dish can be prepared for breakfast or even as evening snack.
Rasam vada is made using rasam powder. This dish is incomplete without rasam powder. You can easily get rasam powder at any local store or online. You can also make rasam powder at home. Vadas are dipped in the rasam mixture. All ingredients are very important to make this dish perfect and tasty.
So lets start with the recipe.
How to make Rasam Vada
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp. Oil
- 10-12 Curry Leaves
- 1 tbsp. White Lentils (Urad Dal)
- 2 Medium Chopped Tomatoes
- 1/2 cup Split Pigeon Peas (Toor Dal)
- 2 tbsp Rasam Powder
- 1 tbsp. Red Chili Powder
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
- Salt as per taste
- 3 Cups of water
- 1 cup Split White Lentils (Urad Dal)
- 1 tbsp Dried grated Coconut
- Some Chopped Coriander Leaves
- 1 tbsp Oil for Tadka
- 2-3 Dried Red Chilies
- 1 tsp Mustard Seeds

Instructions:
Firstly soak the 1 cup of Split white lentils (Urad dal) for 4 hours. Make ground paste of it. Keep this aside.
Now cook the 1/2 cup split pigeon peas (Toor dal) as usually prepared for Dal.
Rasam Mixture : Heat pan, add oil, add curry leaves, and add 1 tbsp. Split white lentils (Urad Dal). Saute it till it become reddish. Now add chopped tomatoes. Mix it and cook until tomatoes become soft. Now add cooked split pigeon peas (Toor dal). Mix it and add rasam powder, turmeric powder and salt as per taste. Again mix everything nicely. Now add 3 cups of water. Cover it and cook for 10 minutes on medium flame. Now lets give tadka to the rasam mixture. Heat small pan, add oil, add dried red chilies and add mustard seeds. Let mustard seeds crackle. Now add this tadka to the boiling rasam mixture. Cook for a minute and turn off the gas flame.
Rasam Vada: Now In a bowl, add the ground paste of split white lentils (Urad dal), dried grated coconut, chopped coriander leaves and salt as per taste. Mix all these ingredients to make rasam vada batter. Now heat appe pan and add little oil to the appe pan. Pour the batter into the appe pan using a spoon. Cover it and cook. Turn it in a while. Fry this till it become golden. It will become crispy. Remove it in a plate and turn off the gas flame.
Now in a bowl, add Rasam vada and Rasam mixture. Serve hot and enjoy.
Tip: You can also deep fry Rasam Vadas.
